Bruno Brás

He was born on November 19, 1981, in Mafamude, Vila Nova de Gaia. From an early age, he showed a strong inclination for music, beginning his journey with classical guitar, thanks to the encouragement of a friend. He continued as a self-taught musician, learning to play various instruments such as cavaquinho, mandolin, accordion, and keyboards.

His musical path has crossed several styles and projects: he joined folklore groups since 1993, dance bands from 1998, and traditional music projects, being the founder of “Malapata.” In 2009, he joined the “Orquestra Notas D’Ouro,” resident at the Casino da Póvoa de Varzim. In 2011, he took on the musical direction and piano in the project “Sélvis Prestley and TCB Band,” a tribute to Elvis Presley.

That same year, he began studying Portuguese guitar with a guitarist from Porto. Within a few months, he dedicated himself to the fado viola, an instrument with which he developed a deep passion for the art of accompanying fado. For almost a decade, he played in the main fado houses of Greater Porto, later moving to Lisbon, where he continued his professional career in the most prestigious venues of the capital.

His talent has taken him beyond borders, having performed in countries such as Canada, Cyprus, Turkey, Denmark, Poland, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, Spain, and Singapore.

Alongside his career, he invested in his education: taking private lessons with renowned teachers, studying jazz guitar at the Hot Clube de Portugal, participating in various combos, and in 2020 attending a Composition Workshop with Pedro Madaleno. In 2021, he began the Community Music course at ESELx.

During the pandemic, he moved to Hamburg, Germany, where he developed a musical education project dedicated to fado within the Portuguese community. At the end of 2023, he returned to Porto, the city where he continues to expand his musical activity.

A versatile musician, Bruno Brás refuses to limit himself to just one style or instrument. Passionate about music, he does not play to live — he lives to play.
