Musical Journey
Born on November 3, 1960, in Funchal, Marino de Freitas grew up in a family of musicians and began his studies at the Conservatório Escola das Artes Eng.º Peter Clode. In 1974, he started performing in hotels and nightclubs in Madeira, joining several regional bands for 15 years. Later, he continued his training in London at the Musicians Academy, where he graduated with distinction in Electric Bass. After returning to Madeira, he was honored by the Regional Government for his musical career. He moved to Lisbon at the invitation of Fernando Pereira, joining his band, and later participated in the orchestra for Herman José’s television programs.In 2004, he began his journey into fado, developing activities as a musician, producer, composer, and orchestrator. In 2006, he received the award for Best Bass Guitar at the II Grande Gala dos Prémios Amália Rodrigues. That same year, he joined Mariza’s "Terra" tour, performing 45 concerts along the east coast of the United States.
Collaborations and Productions
Marino de Freitas recorded five original tracks with the voice of Linda Leonardo, a project he considered one of the most interesting of his fado career. He produced several albums, including the debut work of Amália do Rosário. With Mafalda Arnauth, he produced and directed the album "Diário," released by Universal Music. Throughout his career, he has accompanied artists such as Ana Moura, Carlos do Carmo, Chico Madureira, Cristina Branco, Joana Amendoeira, João Braga, Jorge Fernando, Maria da Fé, Mariza, Mísia, Pedro Moutinho, Teresa Tapadas, and Mafalda Arnauth.
