Plans for Building Portuguese Guitars
The Portuguese guitar is one of the greatest symbols of our musical identity, being an essential presence in fado and in various expressions of traditional and contemporary music. Its construction requires precision, knowledge, and respect for a tradition passed down from generation to generation.
In order to support both professional luthiers and amateurs dedicated to the art of instrument making, full-size plans are available for the three classic models of the Portuguese guitar: Lisbon, Porto, and Coimbra.
These plans were developed based on instruments produced by Guitarras Flor de Lis, faithfully reflecting the proportions, measurements, and characteristic details of each model. They are therefore a valuable tool for anyone wishing to study or build the Portuguese guitar in a way that remains true to tradition.
Lisbon Model: with a bright tone, it is the one most associated with traditional fado.
Porto Model: with a full and distinctive sound, appreciated in both popular and classical music.
Coimbra Model: recognizable by its elongated body and deep tone, closely linked to academic tradition.
The plans are available for purchase in full size, providing all the necessary references for construction.
For more information or to purchase the plans, those interested should contact Luthier António Monteiro, who puts his experience and dedication at the service of preserving and promoting the Portuguese guitar.
